Two Militants Killed in Encounter in Kashmir, Thousands Attended the Funeral
On August 2, 2018, two militants were killed in an encounter in Shurmriyal Lolab, an area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
An official said that the militants were travelling in a vehicle which was ambushed by the army. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape.
Two militants were killed in the encounter. Theywereidentified asBilal Shah from Shart Muqam and Zahoor from Kalaroos Kupwara affiliated with the Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit.
“An INSAS rifle, which was snatched a few days back from a cop in Kandhararea of Maidanpora Lolab, Kupwara,was recovered from the militants,” police officials said.
The internet service in Lolab wassuspended soon after the encounterstarted. An official said that the internetwas suspended to maintain the law and order situation and will be resumed once the situation is normal.
In the evening of the same day, two civilians were injured after the army allegedly fired on a protestin Kursa area of Kupwara district.
The protestbroke out soon after the news spread about the killingof the militants in the area.
Reports said that injured civilians wereidentified as MohammadJamal Tantray who is the Chowkidar of the village Krusan of Kupwara . He received a bulletin his arm. MohammadSaleem Parray, 27, son of MohammadYousuf Parray of Budgam received a bulletin his thigh. Saleem is a cable operator by profession. Both injured were referred to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for the treatment.
Funeral of Militants
Thousands of people participated in the last rites of the militant. Official sources said that Zahoor Ahmad has been buried in his ancestral graveyard at Kalaroos.
More than six thousand people attended the funeral prayers of the slain as perthe reports.
About the burial of the other militant who was killed along with Zahoor, Bilal, an official added that he will be buried tomorrow after Friday prayers.
To maintain law and order in the district, restrictionsunder Section 144 have been enforced in the parts of Kupwara, authorities also decided all the education institutes, colleges, and schoolsshall remain closed on 3rd August2018, expect the ones in Machil, Tangdar and Keranareas.
