Farmer Unity Defeats Pro-corporate Farm Laws
The three farm laws that are going to be repealed were not meant for farmers but for big businesses. They would have allowed India Inc to find new markets to invest in, at a time when investment opportunities in manufacturing and services have dried up due to poor domestic demand. The Modi government had assumed that poor farmers, who do not get MSP, would support the farm laws to get rid of rich farmers and grain traders. However, even poor farmers are aware that the MSP keeps prices stable and they united with big farmers against these pro-corporate laws.
