Dr. Vivek Monteiro awarded the “Homi Bhabha Award for Science Education, 2016”

It gives us great happiness to inform you that Dr. Vivek Monteiro, of Nav Nrimiti, has been selected for the “Homi Bhabha Award for Science Education, 2016”, instituted by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research for his contributions in science education. He was informed of this award, today by the Dean , Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBSCE). It is awarded alternate year to a current or ex-staff member of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). Dr. Vivek Monteiro was a faculty member at the TIFR in 1970's.
At the award ceremony he will deliver an endowment lecture.
As we all know, Dr. Vivek Monteiro, belongs to the group that laid the foundation of People's Science Movement (PSM). He is an invitee to the Executive Committee of the All India People's Science Network (AIPSN) and Nav Nirmiti (NN), of which he is one of the founders, is a member organization of the AIPSN. Science Education is NN's area of expertise. They conceptualised the Universalization of Active Mathematics (UAM) and Universalization of Active Science (UAS) and with twenty years' efforts they have advanced them to a stage that the UAS and UAM methods are accepted in many states for science and mathematics education.
In reply to congratulations from different quarters, Dr. Vivek Monteiro responded with the following comment:
“ I am indeed honoured. As I had mentioned to Vahiaji, the work that I am involved in is really the work of a large team at Navnirmiti and other organizations, of which I am only part. So I gladly accept this award on behalf of this team of dedicated colleagues, which includes many at HBCSE!”
The PSM and the AIPSN is happy and feels deeply honoured at this recognition.
You may also note that Kip Thorne, one of the recipients of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics, was Dr. Vivek Monteiro's teacher in his undergraduate days in Caltech.
