Kamarajar Port - Vested Interests Looking for Opportunity in Govt’s Privatisation Move
The Kamarajar Port Ltd (KPL) has been built by public sector entities like Chennai Port Trust and is a profit making entity. But the pro-corporate NDA government led by then Prime Minister AB Vajpayee and the current one under Narendra Modi have been paving way to move KPL into private hands. The port workers' union firmly stood against such moves for privatisation and are still vigilant of the vested interests. The union wants the Chennai port trust to take over KPL retaining it in the public sector.
